Dr. J. Edward Anderson, engineer, peace activist and a seminal figure in the field of Personal Rapid Transit, was honored for his work on PRT by The Aerospace Corporation, in a private dinner event June 28 in El Segundo, CA.
The Aerospace Corporation is a federally funded research and development center headquartered in El Segundo.
Anderson was presented with a certificate of Technical Achievement Recognition, for his "lifelong dedication to the advancement of transportation technology."
Among others joining Dr. Anderson were Randy Kendall, VP for Civil and Commercial Operations at The Aerospace Corporation, and Michael Irving. Mr. Irving is the son of Jack Irving, the VP at The Aerospace Corporation who in 1968 led the study project into PRT, culminating in the book Fundamentals of Personal Rapid Transit.
"Without Jack's work on PRT beginning in 1968, I doubt if I would have stayed in the field. It was thrilling to witness speaker after speaker stress the need for [automated transit network] systems, starting at San Jose," Anderson said.
