"NASA Partners To Revolutionize Personal Transportation" (Ames Research Center)

+
From our sources: The NASA photo shows a full size model of a new SkyTran design. While resembling Unimodal's familiar renderings that have circulated for years, the new one is larger. The width has been doubled to four and one half feet. Passenger door is on the side, is hinged at the top; a small luggage compartment hatch is visible aft. Multiple exterior shapes are contemplated. ©MMIX Get On Board!PRT News

MISTER competes on reality TV
January 30, 2008

(Get On Board!PRT) Ollie Mikosza took his MISTER personal rapid transit concept before a national television audience in Poland recently, competing on the elimination-style reality TV show "Brilliant Idea" (Kapitalny Pomysl). The show is similar to the BBC's "Dragon's Den" (soon to be "Shark Tank" in the US).

Mikosza appeared on the fifth show of the season on December 26, and was voted forward into the finals:

"But engineer Olgierd Mikosza proved unrivaled. His fully automated system for urban transport infrastructure is to ultimately replace the metro and trams in many cities. The idea is really brilliant, argued the designer on 18 January. Then the proposal is in the finals with the other six participants." Source (includes video)

The final elimination round took place on January 19. At stake -- a prize of 300,000 zlotych (67,000 Euros). Mikosza lost to Charles Kowalczuk and his 'medical goggles' invention.

In the aftermath, Mikosza told the Opole Gazette the experience was good for MISTER despite not winning the big prize. The project is likely to be in line for EU funding due to interest from the Ministry of Regional Development, and he has been contacted by eight potential investors.
